When two people are living together without the legal restraints that a marriage gives, it is infinitely easier to "pack up my goodies and leave". After all, unless the partner is well-motivated, they wouldn't pursue the other in repsect to support (monetary or otherwise) in a legal manner. I do realise this has been changing in the past few years, but how many people do you know (mostly women, I'm afraid), who have said they are happy to get married because it feels more secure (ie, the other person can't skip on a whim). Besides, how can you tell how you *really* feel about each other until you've both had rousing cases of influenza? :-) Laurie Sefton {harpo,ihnp4,allegra,decvax}!pur-ee!pucc-h!afo {decwrl}purdue!pucc-h!afo Unfortunately, my magicks have very little use in an industrialised society.... -- Laurie Sefton {harpo,ihnp4,allegra,decvax}!pur-ee!pucc-h!afo {decwrl}purdue!pucc-h!afo Unfortunately, my magicks have very little use in an industrialised society....
