I also caught the connection.  The two shows, though on different
networks (White Shadow was CBS) are done by MTM.  Later on St. Elsewhere,
Warren comments to the phone man that he was awarded a full scholarship
to play basketball, but in his freshman year he messed up his knee and
was really lucky to get the job he had.  THe phone man said to check
out the telephone company just before he zapped himself in the basement
trying to fix the phone lines.
