We have had no peculiar behavior from the drive (4.2bsd.) We have had peculiar behavior from field circus like you mention (blame the software...hey, it's UNIX!) 1. I think you have a hardware problem. 2. If they claim they cannot service the machine because you run UNIX ask them why they signed the service contract and took your money?
