Lines: 8 Summary: We had several nutrition department grads in our racing club when I was in Salt Lake City, and they were all concerned about # calories expended. The conclusion they made was that it was a non-linear relation between speed*time and calories consumed. The "average" value of interest was "for a 175 lb. male at a steady rate of 27mph (eg. criterium pace), 600 calories are burned in one hour". This doesn't seem like too much, but the real key is that if you are in training form, your entire metabolism is geared up: you burn more calories just being alive than you would otherwise. =Charlie Hunt=
