I've found it useful to get two separate phone lines which rotate (if
the first line is busy the second line is rung) rather than call
waiting.  Southwestern Bell doesn't charge extra for the rotating
service; I don't know about the other regional operating companies.
This way, people can still call you on the same number and it won't
interrupt your data.
