The conclusion was (fuzzy memory here) that response times over a couple of seconds were bad for productivity. I seem to remember a factor of 4 (but I could be wrong). Baud rate is a factor in response time, particularly if you spend a lot of time paging through stuff like when reading mail, or scanning a program that you are trying to fix.
