I live in San Diego county (in calif.). The average day time temp. is 70 degrees year round and average night temp is 60 degrees. San Diego county has the second highest utility rates in the nation. New York city is the highest. The average combined gas and electric bill for an average house (1500 sq. ft) is $120 monthly (yearly average). During the winter months the average monthly bill in the average house exceeds $200. As I write this flaming complaint the temp. outside is about 67 to 70 degrees. Our utlity company is San Diego Gas and Electric (SDGE). They're privatly owned and privatly managed. You can buy their stock on the New york stock exchange. They're a PROFIT organization! They're also a monopoly. Each month they SOCK IT TO US. Its getting to the point that the utility bill is larger than the auto payment. At the rate their giving rate increases the utility bill will be greater than the house payment in a year or two. This months bill was a WHOPPER! and at the bottom of the bill they said they were seeking another 100 million dollar rate increase. What can be done about this. Don't most cities and municipalities own their own utility company. Are'nt most utility companies in this nation non-profit. We have the best average climate in the nation. One would think we would have the lowest rates. These are the kind of rates Boston or Chicago would have. Its a case of ROBBERY. They've got loads of money and the law on their side. They probably have local and state politicians in their pockets. You people that live in the cold climate, mail me your average monthly cost in the winter and average temp. Also, is your utility company owned by your local government or a co-op. I'm very curious to see how bad we're getting rapped and robbed.
