I rather agree.  I have at times wandered into a random store (stereo
and car stores are the worst...) and had a saleman come up and saywith
a big, phony grin 'Hi, can I help you?  I'm Jim, what's your name?'

I usually say 'My name is "Mr. Kercheval"'.
