One would think we would have the lowest rates." Since when does buying a small amount of anything mean paying a lower rate than someone who buys a large amount. Ever hear of quanity discounts? Just because your wires carry less current than those in Chicago doesn't make them any cheaper to string. Why don't you give your house a complete energy audit. San Diego has such a nice climate that many builders decided that all that insulation and weather stripping just wouldn't be worth the trouble. After all they aren't paying the utility bill. Don Lancaster has some really good tips in his "Secret Money machine" Book. One of these is to "Target" your utility bill. This means buying enough SDG+E stock to pay $120 a month dividends that pay the utility bill. Of course there are some Washington rate payers that don't think of that as such a hot idea. But it does tend to average out the rate increases with dividend increases. Last and not least: Go Solar! All that sun going to waste down there. If every- one had their own solar panel then you might not have needed that San whatc- youmacallit nuke plant. John Eaton !hplabs!hp-pcd!john
