The DA reduces that to a mis- demeanor unless physical force is used (ie a gun or a mugging with injury). Then, a misdemeanor conviction leads to only a short jail stay (30-90 days). Another fact: Apparently New York City has NO program to prevent students from dropping out, or helping those who have. I'm sure that doesn't help crime figures.
