I have been enjoying this discussion, but I wish you folks would not use
"discipline" as a transitive verb.  What you are trying to do is "control"
your children without punishing them.

Discipline is internal - if your child acquires it, it will be from your
example.  And remember that your child will use his discipline to get what
he wants, not what you want.
