Some of us using acoustic coupled Racal/Vadic 1200 Baud over
commercial long distance seem to find that problem also.  I believe,
in my case, that it is crosstalk in the telephone systems, in that
some of the trunks in my case have other R/v and Bell modems on them.
The crosstalk looks like extraneous characters to the modem.

The only remedy, in my case is to re-dial and attempt to get a cleaner
trunk.
