He played the Phantom, a cat burglar, in "The Pink Panther" and "The Trail of the Pink Panther" (or maybe it was "The Curse of the Pink Panther"; they're too recent for my references). Now, Roger Moore did appear as Clouseau in the latter film, unbilled. Alan Arkin also appeared once as Clouseau in "Inspector Clouseau" in 1968.
