I'm planning to buy a Canon 300/5.6 lens.  In Modern/Popular
Photography, it's advertised at about $120, which translates, with
duties etc. to about $200 Canadian.  The local camera stores want
$325-$350 for this lens.  However, as I was in Toronto yesterday, I
dropped by a few camera stores.   The first one would sell it for
$250, and the second one offered it to me for $209!  At these prices,
I'll forget about mail order...

The moral of the story: shop around in the nearest 'big city' before
buying mail order.
