View, CA Lines: 21 1/24-1/28 35th? Annual Caltech Ski trip to the Pear Lake Ski Hut. Pear Lake Ski Hut at 9200 ft. in Sequoia Natl. Park. Temps: low of 10 F, highs low 30s. Cold. Cloud cover: Cloudy all day to varying degrees except 1/27 when it was perfectly clear excepting low Valley Tule fog. Visibility on cloudy days varied from 20 feet to 20 miles. Base depth: 3-4 feet. Chains required on all roads to the point of silliness. 1st day had 2 inches new snow at 7000 (surprise). Another 6 inches fell 2nd day. Fourth day had another 4 inches. Used climbing skins, probably blue wax with a purple kicker to get up hills.
