ALL RIGHT! I happened to LIKE the movie, and had no problem understanding it. Not only that, I've never read the book. I expect that those of you who read the book were expecting more out of the movie, and knew what you were missing. The only problems I had with the movie were relatively minor, and I can't see what you all have against it. Most of the T.V. critics comments (gruesome, not uplifting, expensive useless sets, etc.) in my book were GOOD RECOMENDATIONS. I didn't expect it to be Star Wars, and I'm glad it wasn't. I hated Star Wars! In Dune, war and conflict was depicted more as a dirty and unfriendly job, without all of the fuzzy teddy bears walking around disguised as aliens. Both were fairy tales of a sort, but if Dune wasn't a little unusual around the edges, I would have been disappointed in Lynch. Sure the story moved briskly to say the least, and I expect it totally glossed over entire issues that were covered in the book, but otherwise, it would have to be an 8 hour movie! This is the movie that was hailed as un-makeable. Personally, I think Lynch did an excellent job with what he had to work with, and I thoroughly enjoyed the film.
