I don't think I could be of much help in researching your paper, but this does seem to be a reasonably interesting topic to discuss. From my own observations, virginity seems to be a MUCH overvalued quality in our society. Sure, your first time should be special, but I think EVERY time should be special. What kind of social effects does this overvaluation cause? Well, there are the people who decide to save themselves for marraige. I'm sure that a good many of these discover, *after they're married*, that they and their partner are relatively incompatible in the sack. I wonder how many women who responded 'hugs' to the recent Ann Landers survey did this? And there's the stress and other unnecessary brouhaha associated with the first decision to 'go all the way'. And sometimes disappointment, since how often does the first time work out well, from a purely erotic point of view? And what kind of society puts a positive value on female virginity and a negative value on male virginity? It wouldn't work out at all, if there weren't this ONE girl in every high school class ... :-) I don't want anyone to get the idea that I have anything against virgins. It's just that, well, I wouldn't want my sister to *marry* one. -- Jeff Sonntag ihnp4!mhuxt!js2j "I couldn't do THAT.
