host ... when I was a student at Syracuse University (SUVM.BITNET) 
some of the more adventurous people (i.e. hackers, cs-nerds, slimeballs,
whatever) got involved in something called BITNAUTS ... eventually a
name/information server was started at MAINE.BITNET ... I don't know
if anybody ever met a SO through the BITNAUTS list, but I wouldn't be
too surprised ...
