In "Errand of Mercy" Kirk steals McCoy's line when he says,
"I'm a soldier, not a diplomat." And, in "Amok Time," after
diverting the Enterprise to Vulcan, he says of Spock, "I owe
him my life a dozen times over--isn't that worth a career?"
Maybe we'll find out in ST IV.
