Many places there to see, many things to do, much good food to eat. The exchange rate with Mexico will determine the cost but it can be very inexpensive. Flights are not too expensive either. Try to get on a charter group flight but just buy the flight and not the accomodation package. Isla Mujeres near Cancun is a cheap place to hang out and do a little diving, some great birding just north of there as well. inland are Mayan ruins and some nice litle towns to stay in.
