We also primarily stayed around Madrid, which is absolutely beautiful. The hotel we stayed at was in what is know as "New Madrid," called the Mellia Castilla. A very pretty hotel with good food, and and excellent night club. We photocopied a copy of Fodor's travel book on Spain. He had a really nice walking tour of "Old Madrid." We did most of it in one day, and liked old Madrid so much went back that night. In general, we followed his directions and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Also took a bus tour around Madrid. I didn't enjoy that nearly as much as cruising around alone. The Royal Palace is real pretty but gets a little boring after a while. The cab drivers are really nuts, so be prepared. Since I'm at work I don't have exact names of places we visited, but if you like send mail to me and I'll try to dig up the info at home. Oh, if you're flying by Iberia...watch it! We flew from Madrid to Costa del Sol then had to fly back to Madrid for the plane to NY. They held us up for 1-1/2 hours in Costa del Sol so we missed our plane to NY. They put everyone up for the night but our luggage was already gone, and it was Sunday evening...not much to do but drink and eat. The people are pretty friendly, and prices are generally lower than the states. Let me know if you need more info and how you liked it. Melanie Accomando ihnp4!mhuxt!techpub
