So, we landed in Lincoln, Nebraska instead. At first the pilot was not sure if we would even be able to continue on our journey that evening, so we waited in the Licoln airport aor around 2 hours. Finally it was determined that the fog was not going to lift. The airline we were flying was United. I think they handled the situation very nicely. They put us all up at the Hilton for the night and gave each of us a $10.00 food allowance (so, 2 married people got $20.00 together). They had shuttles take us to the Hilton, and they had charter buses take us back to the airport the following morning. They made it very easy for us by not even requiring us to sign any forms at the hotel. The hotel just gave each family a key. I have been told that other (smaller, "bargain") airlines told their passengers at other airports that night "you're on your own". All I can say is I am glad I flew United.
