I think the Yucatan is a great place to visit. But it's likely to be very hot and rainy in July. Flights to Cancun are often insanely cheap. If you want some real first class snorkeling, be sure to visit neighboring Belize. The islands off the coast (called 'the Cayes') are pretty amazing.
