I went to Madrid 7 1/2 years ago, I found she is the most friendly city among the other European cities: Rome, Florence, Vienna, etc. There's a one day trip from Madrid. You can take a bus to Toledo which was the Capital of Spain in the 12th century. If you enjoy the culture of the whole European countries, this is a start.
