That is, if/when someone announces an ont.singles party, how can I tell someone to "read net.singles" to find out about it without forcing them to read everything in the Universe? (Solutions that don't use the existing news software, i.e. READNEWS or RN, aren't useful.) Unless you can solve that problem, I think ont.singles has a "clear" purpose. But, since Mark thinks it should be "clearly" deleted, perhaps the issue isn't "clear" at all? (Can we drop that modifier?) Until the news software catches up on the "reading" aspect of limited distributions, local versions of Universal Groups should stay. I read all the local groups first; if I have time, I look at the Universal ones. Don't force me to read net.general to find stuff that used to be in wat.general, or net.singles to find stuff that used to be in ont.singles. The volume of traffic in these groups is not an argument for their deletion; it should be an indication that the groups are currently harmless. I would hate to have to generate "filler" traffic to keep the groups around, but if that's what it takes... -- -IAN! (Ian! D. Allen) University of Waterloo
