I just plunked down (last week) full list price ($299.88 + 5% = $314.88) for the SONY D-5. I know that I could get it mail order for less than $250 (at least that's what International Hi-Fi said they'd sell it for). So why pay more? Well, listen to this deal that Q Audio, in Cambridge, MA is offering. You buy a D-5 at $299.88 and they'll throw in: 1. Five Free Discs (some labels excluded); 2. As many CDs as you want at $10 for Rock/Pop, $11 for Classical/Jazz (again, some titles excluded AND they must all be ordered at once); and, 3. The right to return any CD for any reason and get a full credit towards another CD (as long as you retain your proof of purchase). It sounded like such a good deal that I rushed down and gave the man my money. He says he should have his next batch in by March 5th. We'll see. Do you think this deal is really as sweet as it sounds? They were a little vague on exactly which labels are excluded; at these prices does it make a big difference?
