When I was 14, my Dad and I were confronted with a right-hand drive
Fiat 850 in Ireland.  He seemed to adjust to everything quickly, with
the exception of the (manual) gearshift.

Our solution to this was for me to do the shifting from the passenger
seat.  (That way, I shifted right-handed.  He, of course, still handled
the clutch.)  We got pretty good at the timing after a while, so that
it became automatic for both of us.  It took longer to downshift smoothly,
though.

For a non-driving teenager, it was a lot of fun.  I'd definitely recommend it.
