The best performance car for the money is by far the 1985 Mustang GT
They list for less than 10,000. Standard equipment includes:
210 hp 302 (5.0) V8 with 268 ft/pounds torque
Goodyear 255VR60-15 "Gator back" tires
Nice cloth seats
Tilt stearing
interval wipers
split rear fold down seats
Koni shocks 

Performance:
0-60   6.4 seconds 
1/4 mile    14.5 @ 90 mph


Also if you think this car can only go in a strait line you would be
wrong. They ONLY car from japan that is faster around a track 
(Willow Springs) is the 300Z. If you don't beleive me go out and
test drive one. You will be amazed!! Also the quality is very good
on this car, in fact it is as good as any car I have seen from Japan.
