As a matter of fact on some four wheel drive vehicles the front and rear ratios are slightly different. 4.10 to 1 as opposed to 4.11 to 1 for example. For the intended use of conventional 4WD, that is off paved roads, this does not present a problem because there is sufficient slip due to the nature of the road.
