As an aside: I've finally had some success in bringing up yacc and lex from the toys tape, but I haven't used them much. There were at least two problems I encountered in lex - (i) the routine "esc" seems not to have been supplied and is NOT compatible with the standard one in the library (it is fairly simple to create a new "esc" by looking to see what the code expects); (ii) there were some non-standard character escape sequences ("@^a") which caused "negative character class" error messages. More details on request. I'm looking for: a) a ratfor version of "make" b) someone who can tell me why the shared library versions of the tools (using RLIBSHARE.EXE) run 2x slower than the non-shared versions.
