I tend to agree with you, though the problems I foresee are that (i) "true
equality" is a slippery notion to pin down; and (ii) it may very well become
politically expedient to "give minority groups chances" because of the
voting power they command, to the extent that the system becomes
self-perpetuating (believe me, I've seen exactly this happen in India, the
minority groups in this case being the so called "Scheduled Castes and
Tribes").
