you forgot to mention that in today's armed forces, showing the overwhelming
mental capability to actually memorize a serial number, and thereby placing 
yourself in the top 3% (mental capabilities) of all enlisted personnel, you 
receive your first promotion.  (i wish i could place a B-) here, but this is 
more truth than fiction....)  THAT'S why they have serial numbers.  remember,
you heard it here first.
