teleport to is handy in party rooms when there's a wimpy
monster in line of sight.

"maniacal laughter in the distance" is scare monster.
stand on it and nothing will hit you.  Possibly the most powerful
scroll in rogue.  Caveat: dragons still can flame you.

a vampire is fairly wimpy, except that critical hits reduce
your MAXIMUM hp.

I've never found anything to prevent being confused by
medusae (or umber hulks).  Good luck.  (Head for a hallway)
