So she rounded up old friend Faye Sono, a physical therapist -- the two used to get physical together on the star's 1982 World Tour -- and headed for the shops. Sono was a little concerned. She knew how hectic things could get when Newton-John was seen in public. "Oh, don't worry," said the celebrity, "nobody knows I'm in town." Off to the Oregon Mountain Community store they went. On arrival, they were seen by two women huddled in the doorway. "Go on, I'm sure it's her," whispered one. "No, you ask," came the reply. Sono and the star turned up their collars and scurried into the store. The women followed. Finally one of them burst forward. "Excuse me," she said, "but aren't you Faye Sono?" The lady turned out to be a grade school teacher who had not seen Sono for years. Deadpanned Newton-John, "Oh Faye, I just can't take you anywhere." -- Robert Reed, Logic Design Systems Division, tektronix!teklds!bobr
