Not true, whatever some folks at SMU might like to believe. SMU, despite its generally rich and conservative image, has its share of gay students. It and Texas A&M have been the scene of heated controversies of late over the establishment of gay student groups on campus. At A&M the administration went so far as to ban the campus gay organization in order to "protect" its members from potential violence at the hands of the student body! It took legal action to make the A&M administration back down. At SMU the opposition has been more subtle. If anybody wants more information, I know that an article about gays at SMU was published in the "Texas Observer" (a political journal available at good libraries even outside of Texas) within the past year or so. --- Prentiss Riddle ("Aprendiz de todo, maestro de nada.") --- {ihnp4,harvard,seismo,gatech,ctvax}!ut-sally!riddle --- riddle@ut-sally.UUCP, riddle@ut-sally.ARPA, riddle@zotz.ARPA
