In fact it was shown at a local "art" theater within the last six months. It is not a "soviet" film per se, it is a Japanese film made in cooperation with the Soviet National Film Board, and filmed primarily in Siberia. The plot seemed to me to be fairly straightforward, having to do with the goodness of simple, old fashioned values, the harm that well meaning people can unwittingly do, and how modern society has lost touch with nature. The cinematography is wonderful, the movie itself is moving and very well done. I would highly recommend it. -- Charles
