Concert review: I recently attended a bass trombone recital at Carnegie Recital Hall given by one David Taylor. The recital itself was only so-so, but the real action was in the audience. As I sat down, I noticed that the guy in front of me had brought along his trombone. At hte end of the concert, I saw two or three other people lugging trombones, and one guy had a trumpet. I was reminded of tennis matches you see on TV, where the middle-aged country-club ladies in the audience show up in tennis dresses, clutching tennis rackets. The next week, I went to see a horn recital by Hermann Baumann ( a spectacular performance, including the Beethiven horn sonata on an antique handhorn), and there were a few horns in the audience there, too. What's going on here? Has anyone on the net seen this kind of thing?
