Uuhosts naturally assumes uniqueness of names. I use the arguments "-d cmcl2!tut" with pathalias when I produce the routing information for ut-sally. That declares the New York tut dead and lets the Finnish tut show up. I do this because it appears to me that the Finnish tut has clear chronological precedence. This change makes getting to many hosts in Europe possible. A similar problem can be found in usa.nca, where the UC Berkeley Computer Center "rocks" machines are registered. The problem is that they are not only registered with their proper ucb prefixes, but there are also aliases for names without the prefixes, e.g.: topaz = ucbtopaz The name topaz is already registered for a host at Rutgers, and I seem to recall another duplicate with a host at U. Washington. (Also, the aliases are all backwards). The only solution I've found is to delete these aliases from usa.nca before running pathalias. -- John Quarterman, CS Dept., University of Texas, Austin, Texas 78712 USA jsq@ut-sally.ARPA, jsq@ut-sally.UUCP, {ihnp4,seismo,ctvax}!ut-sally!jsq
