This would also prevent it from meowing in the middle of the night, as well as cut back on your food bill. 3) Cut off the cat's legs, and put it in a safe place. To make life simple, place it in a litter box. (For kindness' sake, clean the box monthly -- unless you forget.) [No flames, please! I actually love cats; I just couldn't resist answering your question!] Seriously: The best approach is probably strong discipline. Whenever you notice the kitten chewing the rug, smack it on the mouth and let it know you are pissed off. This should only be done if you have caught the cat in the act; otherwise it won't know what it is being punished for. Also, if your cat seems to have a favorite area, try spraying that area with any of the commerical "cat-away" products. Good luck.
