The solution was to start feeding him Brewer's Yeast!!! He then became addicted to the Brewer's Yeast and craved that for years, but he stopped eating the rug. Everything else they were able to put away out of his reach (makes you a really neat housekeeper!!) I've heard various reasons for this need-- I think there was something about needing the lanolin that is in wool. But I don't really know why...I just know what worked for them.
