This man walks among the damned unscathed. He works witchcraft, this alchemist of souls, making sane men out of mad. Warder, angel, scientist, he culls hallucination from their skulls, talks to Christ and Bonaparte and chases spiders from their skins. He hears their dreams, their fears. Their screams take shape as monsters or as gooks who lurk beneath the bed and bayonet their ankles. He says that no one really knows where dreaming turns to madness.
