There are three common beliefs regarding Holy Communion: a) transubstantiation - Roman Catholic; this belief states that when the priest blesses the bread and wine, it ceases to be bread and wine and becomes the body and blood of Christ b) representation - many Protestant denominations; this belief states that the bread and wine is bread and wine and merely represents the body and blood of Christ c) coexistence (?) - Lutheran; this belief (I forget the name) states that the bread and body and wine and blood coexist in the cup and wafer; Martin Luther said that the body of Christ is "in, with, and under" the bread Tim. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
