It's as solid as any two people who are in it and committed to it. If a marriage doesn't last the lifespan of the couple, is it a failure? If two 19 year old kids get married, learn about life together, produce children and part when they can no longer relate to eachother 'as one', is that a failure? I don't think so. My marriage was *not* a failure. I will happily marry again, wiser and hopefully with these vows: 'To love, honour and respect eachother as long as we both shall love' - that's sucess.
