You never know, though.  My sister lived with someone for five years.
For the first year everyone studiously avoided telling my grandmother
about this, on the assumption she would noisily disapprove.  My
sister finally brought it up.  My grandmother sent them a Cuisinart as
an un-wedding present.

Sometimes people are more understanding than you expect...
