(two friends of mine) decided they wanted to marry. When they mentioned this to J.'s parents, the parents (who are probably around sixty years old) pointed out that since J. and E. had rather different personalities and might have trouble getting along with each other on a day-to-day basis, it might be best for them to live together first to see how things worked out.
