San Diego, Cognitive Science Lab Lines: 33 (Excuse if this has been posted twice, but I got a pair of contradictory messages about whether it got posted or not....and I haven't seen it) Let's see, some favorite dance places... Santa Cruz, CA-The Catalyst is one great bar. They have a bar in front, which is really nice, and another one in back which is open when they have live music (three or four nights a week). Bass Ale on tap, plus a large selection of others (but, who cares). And the biggest, best dance floor I have ever had the pleasure of abusing. I have only seen it too crowded once (a nuclear freeze benefit), and they not only get some of the best of the local talent, but lots of name acts (Neil Young plays there, etc). Interesting mix of crowd and music. Serves food, too. North San Diego County, CA-The Bellyup Tavern has only one bar, in other respects is quite similar to the Catalyst. Not quite as big, but always has live music, and a funky ambience. Lots of blues artists play here, and some national artists (Spencer Davis, the Blasters both played there in January). Also reggae, rock, fifties, new wave. Serves food, too. (And only a walk away, *gloat*) -- Clark "I came to dance." Clark N.
