In return for Torrez and Ruess, the Cards got Bob Johnson, a journeyman pitcher and Spicio Spinks. There were others involved also, but these were the particulars. Johnson once had the dubious distinction of being the all time Kansas City Royal single season strikeout leader! Of course, this was only after their first season in the league, but he had a very good year for an expansion team (something like 208 K's). Those Royals were a smart team too, because they immediately turned around and traded him for...well I'll leave that for you and the net. Anyway, when Torrez left the Expos, he went to Baltimore. The trade was one of the more lopsided probably in baseball history, as it gave the Orioles production for the next decade (which just ended 1975-1984) and it gave the Expos very little except it put them in the action for probably the most influential legal decision in baseball's history. The trade was Torrez and Kenny Singleton for Rich Coggins and Dave McNally. Daniel Schneider {...decvax}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-vlnvax!schneider
