How can a defensive defenseman like Chelios (5 goals, 44 points) get the Rookie of the year award with the presence of Lemieux (24 goals, 63 points). It is well known that the writers in NHL always vote for scorers (except Rod Langway for the Norris). If you are not in the class of Tom Barrasso, Ray Bourque, or Denis Potvin as a defensive player, you won't get the Calder.
