Charles,

Thanks anyway.  I finished the scarf and it's twelve feet long,
and that friend is about 5'8" so it should work. I finished it because
I was really, really tired of working on it.
After I posted the query to this newsgroup, I was told by yet
another friend that there is, indeed, a Dr. Who newsgroup.
