Carolina, Columbia Lines: 20 Summary: Actually, h, j, k and l are at least half memonic (since ^h is backspace and ^j is line feed), but that is not the important point. The point is that you never have to take your fingers off the letter keys to move the cursor. I have never used a terminal where the arrow keys were more easily accessible than h,j,k and l. In addition, if you tend to use a variety of terminals (as I do), the placement of arrow keys never becomes ingrained, but I can usually count on QWERTY.
